Frequently Asked Questions
I've never had therapy before, what can I expect?
Once you contact me, I will arrange an initial discovery session with you either over the phone or via Zoom. I often ask questions to understand more about your challenges and I will explain the hypnotherapy process.
If you wish, you will also experience a tester hypnosis session to see how that feels. If we both feel that we can work together, we can arrange our first 1 hour session where we agree on a plan tailored to your needs.
There are no expectations from me, just come with an open and curious mind.
Will I remember what happened during hypnosis?
Most of my clients remember what we discussed during the session. Some remember being relaxed and visualising a beach or a blue sky. They remember only the essential parts of the conversation. It doesn’t matter if you remember the exact words as your mind already processed what’s necessary for your change and remembers the insights.
Will I lose control of my thoughts and words?
No one can force you to do something during hypnosis. That’s why hypnosis won’t work for you if you think this isn’t the right path for you. During the session, you will be in a state of deep relaxation like daydreaming or watching a movie. We will decide the parameters for the session and what problems we will be addressing. That is what your mind will expect us to work on. Even if we deviate from it, your mind will ignore anything that doesn’t solve the problem.
Will I experience extreme emotions during the session?
No emotion is an extreme emotion. Emotions are natural reactions to a situation. Throughout the session, you will be in a calm state where your mind feels safe to uncover and analyse any traumatic experiences. You may express sadness, rage or fear but it’s natural. Each emotion has a function and we try to understand why they show up the way they did.
What if I want to end the session? Will I be forced to continue?
Each session proceeds with your consent. Forcing your mind will disrupt the trust in the process and you will face more resistance on your journey. It’s important your mind feels safe during the session for the best outcomes. Anytime your mind resists any particular topic, I will guide you away and discuss the one it wants to address.
Is hypnotherapy still effective even if I am already in traditional counselling?
Yes. Hypnotherapy employs techniques complementary to traditional therapy. Consulting with your counsellor before trying hypnotherapy is advisable. With your consent, I can collaborate with your counsellor and determine the most suitable course of treatment for you. You will be briefed on the procedure and the next steps, excluding confidential details. Ultimately, the choice remains yours.
